The openings are cominggg!

Finally, there were some job postings this weekend! I will be sending out 5 applications tomorrow (resume, cover letter, references, letter of rec. and copy of cert. is my standard). Hopefully, it will continue from here and more jobs will be posted! This makes me realize I need to start preparing myself for interviews-just in case! I am planning on looking up popular interview questions and writing my answers to them on flashcards to feel confident and comfortable with my answers. I also want to brush up on some teaching strategies and specific programs.

I am also beginning to look into summer jobs as my savings from subing is NOT going to get me through the summer! I applied to a summer enrichment program nearby looking for teachers and aides. I honestly wouldnt mind even getting an aide job as it is still a job and something to put on my resume! Also, its closeby and in a district I would love to eventually have a fulltime job in so always a bonus!!

spring break...

Like many other people in the teaching business I have "off" this week for spring break. What this means for a substitute is no paycheck for a week-yay! yeah, that was sarcasm if you couldn't tell. Ive been supplimenting that with picking up an extra shift at my part time job and a few babysitting days.

So basically a whole week off with nothing to do has left me thinking more and more about NOT having a job. I feel like a COMPLETE failure. I know I've had more than some because I did get hired as a replacement teacher for a few months when some people I know havent even had that-yet I just feel like I am getting nowhere. And lately, Ive been pissed that I'm not getting as many subbing jobs either. It seriously makes me question my abilities. I mean do I suck that much as a teacher that I can't even get subbing jobs? I need to work!!!!

I hate that everyone else my age, who I went to high school with, already have "careers" and houses and the money to do things. I have none of that. I feel like such a loser even though I wouldnt trade my career for theirs any day. It's just so frustrating!! I need to get myself out of this house so I can stop thinking these thoughts and stop the major venting!!

First Post

I decided to start this blog as a way to kep track of my journey to finding a teaching job. Some background info on me:

I graduated December 2007 as an Elementary Education major. I am certified to teach grades K-5.

I started substitute teaching in 2006.

I got a 4 month long term subbing job from September-December of 2008. I started subbing again in January 2009 and hate every minute of it (give me my own classroom PLEASE!)

Job hunting season is back in full swing and I REFUSE to be wthout a job again in September 2009.

Anyway, I will be using this blog to discuss job hunting, interviews, share useful websites, discuss interview questions, discuss teaching in general as well as rant about my current substutute teaching jobs.
